Powerlifting in Italy is performed by
FIPL (Italian Federation Powerlifting) the only federation recognized by the
IPF and
EPF (International and European Powerlifting Federation) both recognized by
GAISF organizer of
WORLD GAMES, and
CIO (International Olympic Committee). The
FIPL obtained from
CONI in 2004, the recognition of autonomous federation. Powerlifting was born in Italy in the early 70s with only two specialties: SQUAT and BENCH PRESS. In 1978 he was introduced DEADLIFT to comply and to joining in
IPF and
EPF and compete internationally. Powerlifting was consecrated in 1983, the year in which seven fans, including this writer, founded the FIPL, walking out from the Body Building in which was relegated in Italy.
Powerlifting is composed as I said, in three specialties, which I am going to briefly describe:
SQUAT: with the bar on the shoulders, to fold legs until the intersection of the hip with the basin, below the top line of the knees.
BENCH PRESS: lying on a bench with the bar on the arms outstretched, bend the arms until the bar touches the chest, then stretch the arms again to return to the starting position.
DEADLIFT: lifting the bar from the ground until the upright position with the legs and back straight.
Each exercise have to respect more rules: the respect of the time available for the execution, the respect of orders and signals of the arbitrators (three arbitrators in the platform of the competition), the clothing and equipment of the powerlifter competitor.
Everything related regulations can find it on the website of FIPL:
www.powerliftingitalia-fipl.it/Documenti_Regolamenti.htmFinally I want to say a few words about the alleged unjustified dangerous of the Powerlifting. Nothing could be more wrong because the load even when high, is always under the control of the athlete and not the ever gets "in one shot". Further proof of not danger is the longevity of powerlifter competitor, infact there are competitions for masters athletes over 60 and 70 years.
The Powerlifting helps to build physical and mind of the athlete and then ... good Powerlifting at all!
